On the 27th of August 2020 Hilton and his life partner Chantal were at home watching television when a residential house robbery took place on their smallholding in Summerveld, Kwazulu-Natal.

Hilton did all he could to protect Chantal but was overpowered by the group of armed assailants.

The alarm was raised and all role-players and emergency services were dispatched. Tragically, on arrival, it was determined that there was nothing that could be done for Hilton by the Advanced Life Support team and he was declared deceased.
