Suspicious Vehicles

I received a call from a neighbourhood watch patroller who is a TrackBox member in the early morning hours advising me that there was an abandoned vehicle on one of the roads he had been patrolling. A registration check was done through SAPS and feedback confirmed that the vehicle was ‘stolen and recovered’.

I then notified the member to advise of the findings. When he picked up my call he was already on foot and close to the vehicle. He then said three guys had popped up out of the blue and were walking toward him which put him in a ‘Catch 22’ situation, and I heard by his tone of voice that he was panicking.

I asked him if he was alone and he advised me that he was with someone but that the three men had walked straight to their car which they then started pushing. I offered to call back-up for him which he turned down as he and his partner were leaving the scene.

My plea to all patrollers out at night is to please keep a safe distance while patrolling and always, if possible, have a partner with you.

Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times.
