Avoiding an Accident

Dispatcher Files

On my night shift I received a call from a TrackBox member who had popped the tyres of his vehicle after avoiding a two-truck collision on the N3 eastbound. The member was not injured but his vehicle had hit an object that had fallen off one of the trucks.

Please take precautions in order to avoid such incidents. Here are a few simple things to remember:

  • Firstly, keep a safe travelling distance from the vehicle in front of you as you never know what could happen at any second.
  • Secondly, always travel at a safe speed. Do not exceed the regulated speed limits of the road as they are put in place for a purpose, taking into account road type, pedestrian traffic, etc., and in any emergency situation you will be able to slow the vehicle down in a controlled manner.
  • Lastly, always be vigilant of your surroundings, checking your side and rear-view mirrors regularly for possible dangers. Pay attention not only to the vehicles in front of you but also to the vehicles in front of them as well. Advanced warnings give you a better chance to avoid accidents.
