Dispatcher Files

Kloof Gorge – KZN

We received an activation from a AAA Response member informing us that his wife had fallen and hurt her ankle while they were hiking in the Kloof Gorge. He also had to negotiate a steep mountain trail to get cell reception due to poor network coverage.

While we tried to ascertain his wife’s exact location as well as the condition of her ankle we learned that she was unable to put any weight on it and was finding it difficult to move. He had also been struggling to carry her from a high point and was exhausted.

After telling our member that we would do all we could to ensure we get him and his wife to safety, I began the process of dispatching relevant services. We also recieved calls from many other service partners to come and assist the stricken couple.

A rescue plan was put into place, including assistance from the local Fire Department and members of the public. In the end, the rescue was a huge success, and the patient was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. We trust that she will get back home soon and wish her a speedy recovery.
