The ERPC received a report from a TrackBox member that during a storm a lightning strike had set fire to a nearby forest area. I called the nearest Fire Department to assist and they arrived quickly on scene and within a short time the fire was extinguished. 

It is important to report a fire early, as runaway veld fires can move at speeds of 25 kph and can be very unpredictable, changing direction and trapping or outrunning those who are attempting to extinguish it. 

This case ended well because a vigilant resident promptly reported the fire, followed by an excellent response from the fire department.
