Flat Tyre on highway late one night

Dispatcher Files

On my early morning shift I received a AAA Response activation from a member who was driving from Krugersdorp to Pretoria and whose vehicle had suffered a flat tyre.

The member had all the tools necessary but for safety reasons was afraid to get out of the vehicle. He unfortunately did not have a torch which would have made the tyre change much easier.

I contacted emergency services for the Gauteng area and explained the situation to the dispatcher who said he would send SAPS to go and assist the stricken motorist. Moments later I called the motorist to check up on him and he asked me to cancel SAPS as a passing trucker had stopped to assist him.

When travelling late at night please check the condition of your vehicle before you leave. It’s also advisable to have someone travelling with you in case of an emergency such as the one mentioned. A torch is also an absolute necessity and other items such as a reflective vest to make yourself visible should you need to get out of the vehicle.
