AAA Response team poaching report

Dispatcher Files

Poaching incidents have been on the decline since the month of April when we had a total of 12 reported cases. May brought with it a total of 9 poaching incidents for the entire month. This does not however reflect the true statistics of the actual amount of poaching that has occurred due to the fact that we can only provide statistics from what has been reported to the AAA Response team.

We found that the majority of the poaching incidents took place in the Pietermaritzburg and Howick areas, followed by incidents also occurring in the Port Shepstone/Port Edward region of the lower South Coast of KwaZulu Natal.

We urge all members to be vigilant and to report all poaching incidents. Poaching does not just consist of rhino or poaching with dogs but also involves various other facets, such as poaching of indigenous plants, indigenous reptiles, aquatic species of fish and invertebrates from both the ocean and freshwater streams and rivers, etc….

Poaching is a serious issue both in South Africa and across the globe. We can make a change and bring justice to those breaking the law, but we need your help. So when you witness an incident, call us and we will relay the information to our various anti-poaching channels and SAPS members for action.
