ALLERGIC REACTION

An Interesting fact to know is that when your body experiences an allergic reaction, it is your immune systems ways of fighting substances and can include symptoms such as itching, rash and trouble breathing.  It is also interesting to note that sometimes allergies do not occur the first time you come into contact with it, but only evolves over time. This means that you may not know you are allergic to something because you have been in contact with it before.

I received a call from one of the emergency response center owners we work with to say that his wife is allergic to penicillin and that she is currently having an allergic reaction to it. I dispatched the nearest Ambulance.

Whilst waiting for medical assistance, I kept in contact with the member to see if there was anything I could do telephonically to assist his wife to make her more comfortable, as I am a BLS qualified paramedic. There is always joy in helping others whether it be face to face or over the phone, whether it’s to suggest ways to help or it’s in the form  of calming those who are panicked in the situation.

The members wife was taken to hospital and luckily her allergic reaction was not too severe she was treated and sent home for rest.

I urge everyone to please take note of medication prescribed to you, if the doctor or pharmacist does not ask about allergies please mention it to them. Also make sure that all other types of allergies are taken into consideration in your daily lives to keep you safe and healthy.
