Motorcycle Accident

Dispatcher Files

A call came in from a TrackBox member to report a motorcycle accident that had just occurred on the N3 by the Paradise Valley bridge.

The bike had hit the barrier at high speed and the two riders had been thrown off. The @Netcare911 ambulance and ALS (Advanced Life Support) were immediately dispatched from their base to attend the scene. The caller then informed me that the female passenger was deceased, and that advanced CPR was being administered to the other rider as he was unconscious and not breathing.

Upon Netcare’s return to base, they advised me that neither of the two bikers had made it and both had passed away on scene, despite best attempts to save their lives.

Safety on the road is a major concern not only for traffic officials but indeed for all road users. There are many different road safety campaigns aimed at reducing road deaths and injuries on the roads of South Africa. The most well-known of these are the #Arrive_Alive_Road Safety Campaign and the Make Roads Safe Campaign.

A few important road safety statistics:

  • It is reported that 40% of people who die on the country’s roads are pedestrians.
  • About 60% of both pedestrians and drivers are under the influence of alcohol.
  • 33 percent of people who die on roads are passengers.
  • Just 2% of passengers buckle up.

Please drive safely and consider the safety of your passengers and other road users.
