Veld fire escalating

We received a call from a AAA Response member recently who is also part of a Neighbourhood Watch, reporting a Veld Fire that was escalating in the Silverton area of Pretoria. 

The conditions reported in the area were strong and gusting winds and this resulted in the long dry grass that had caught fire. The Fire was spreading rapidly and encroaching on the boundary of the residential area as well as a local Church that was fully occupied at the time.

Neighbourhood Watch members were on scene and urgent assistance was requested. I immediately contacted the Tshwane Metro Fire department and requested assistance. Metro Fire arrived on scene within a short period and took control of the situation.

Prompt reaction from Metro Fire thankfully avoided a difficult situation whereby Homes and the Church could have been destroyed.
