A father, a dream, a death.

Minutes of our Country – Media Watch – 05.08.2019

I had such a great night shift, doing what is so important to me, that is: checking on the minutes of our country and what our fellow South Africans are up to. But my heart, soul and eyes just broke open wide in sadness as I read that Des Werner and Werner Froneman, Project Directors of U Dream Global, crashed in their flight support aircraft in Tanzania on the 3rd of August. Tragically both are deceased.

Teen pilot Megan Werner, along with a group of incredible friends, founded U Dream Global to promote and facilitate innovation among young people, and their vision was to build and fly a plane from Cape to Cairo.

Megan, family and friends, the situation just cannot be placed into words on the back of all your incredible achievements in building this plane which covered a distance of 10,139 km on June 12. On July 8 the team of teens landed safely in Cairo after flying through Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea on their way to Egypt.

To Des Werner, your legacy is the eyes and heart of the world, most of all Megan. You have set the benchmark high for fathers to follow and we are so proud of you for your family leadership.

Our heart and soul condolences…
