AfriForum’s Path to Growth

AfriForum’s Path to Growth

Minutes of our Country – Media Watch – 20.08.2019

As any organisation grows, it must of course occasionally look at restructuring its operations to accommodate its staff complement, subscribing members, infrastructure, IT requirements, marketing strategy, etc.

AfriForum is one such organisation and has decided to realign its management structures to meet the demands of its strong growth trajectory. AfriForum’s membership has just passed the 226,000 mark and its large volunteer base has increased exponentially over the past few years.
This is good news for South Africa, particularly in the current volatile political environment, as the organisation is one of the few which is able to hold government departments accountable for their performance (or lack of it) as well as ensuring proper legal representation for minorities and the protection of the rights of individuals.

AfriForum is a true “civil rights watchdog” and as an independent NPO/NGO seeks to bring peaceful co-existence with other communities and a free, safe and prosperous South Africa. As such, they deserve the support of every South African.

Western Cape Murders – Update

Despite the deployment of the Anti-Gang Unit in the Western Cape, the murder figures remain high. Murders last weekend were 47 compared to this weekend’s 34. Both SAPS (South African Police Service) and SANDF (South African National Defence Force) will be presenting reports to the Provincial cabinet.

Over 1,000 arrests have been made since the deployment, which commenced on July 18 and will continue until September 16, but the military presence in the area is seen by many as a temporary solution. Police Minister Bheki Cele said: “It’s not an ideal world to have soldiers in communities,” and “We need to be ready to police once SANDF members have been withdrawn.”

Let us hope that a workable solution is found, and implemented in order to stabilise and bring a semblance of normality to the lives of residents in the affected areas.
