Emergency Drills

In order to ensure that our staff are on the ball and utilise appropriate skills and knowledge in emergency situations, @Together SA CAN (NPO) and other partner companies regularly participate in mock emergency drills. This is also for the benefit of our contributing members who are company-based, to ensure that such operations and procedures are familiar to them.

During a day shift we received a call from one of our Corporate Clients to perform an ERD (Emergency Response Drill). The situation involved a pedestrian who had been knocked down by a truck, and suffering a cut to the leg which was bleeding profusely.

This particular corporate client’s  staff are all trained in first aid and treated this mock version as an actual incident. I was advised that the staff member handling the incident had immobilised the patient due to a C-spine injury and had dressed the leg wound and stopped the bleeding. I immediately dispatched @Netcare911 who arrived on scene in record time, stabilising the patient.

This emergency response drill went smoothly and exactly according to plan with dispatchers and services carrying out the drill to the best of their ability, ensuring all those involved were handled quickly and efficiently.

It was a pleasure to end this call knowing that the drill was a success. This ERD response has been put in place to make sure that emergency plans run smoothly and without panic in real life situations. Regularly practicing drills such as this ensures efficiency and allows those services involved to work well together, in a smooth and efficient manner.
